CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
If you're 17 and older, an A1 licence allows you to take off your L plates and ride a scooter, or a small motorcycle, and carry a pillion.

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
CBT is the initial course that any beginner rider should take. It usually takes a whole day to complete. If you achieve a satisfactory level at the end of the course your instructor will award you with a certificate of accomplishment that is referred to as a DL196.
During this course, you will learn to operate on a motorcycle. You will be guided throughout the day by an experienced instructor. Module 1 Theory Test

Module 2: Practical Test
After you've passed Module 1 and your theoretical test, you're now able to take the practical portion of your motorcycle licence - Module 2. This test will award you an A1 license that allows you to ride bikes with a capacity of up to 125cc with the maximum power of 11 BHP. You are also able to ride on motorways and carry a passenger.
The Mod 2 test is an independent riding test lasting approximately 10 minutes. The examiner will follow you on an established route that will vary in road and traffic conditions. The BRC is a rigorous five-day course designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to become a licensed motorcycle driver in Tennessee. After successful completion of the BRC can allow you to skip the written and driving tests at the TN Department of Motor Vehicles.
You must be at least 16 years of age to participate in the Basic RiderCourse (BRC). If you are younger than 18 years old You will require a parent or guardian's signature on both the Covid Release, Waiver and Indemnification forms (click here for the form) and the Motorcycle Safety Program Parent/Guardian Agreement form. Your guardian or parent will also need to complete the MSF ecourse before attending your BRC course.
